Let me tell you something I never thought I’d write, My partner and I made our first $100 trading futures together. And no, we’re not financial advisors, day trading wizards, or blessed with secret trust funds. Just two people with a shared $5 emergency fund, some wildly different personalities, and a dream to figure out money outside of the usual paycheck cycle.

We Needed Income, Not Advice

We’d heard it all. "Budget smarter," "Manifest more," "Just stop eating out." or how about  that infamous "live below your means". You ever heard that and thought...hmmmm what means? Just tell me what part of my already discount lifestyle I should cancel, toothpaste, the air? I dreaded hearing that because it basically meant fasting, not for health but for rent. What we actually needed? Income. Something real. Skill‑based. Scalable. And something we could do side-by-side (without one of us rage‑quitting over a Google Sheet). That’s how we found out about trading, specifically Futures Trading. More on that another time. 

Our 3 Beginner Mistakes (From Both Sides of the Couch)

Trading as a couple was like hosting a game show. One of us was the emotional rollercoaster, the other was the over-thinker. And both of us had to learn the hard way:

1. Overtrading: Just because the market moves doesn’t mean you should

2. No plan, just vibes: "That chart looks interesting" is not a strategy (it’s really gambling)

3. Emotional trading: Every loss felt like a personal attack, LITERALLY! Every win? An ego trip (Often very short lived).

Trading didn’t fix us, It pulled back the curtain. All that emotional stuff we thought we had under control? Still there. Still messy. Still human.  It will expose you hard. Because trading brings up everything,  patience, trust, ego, fear. And if you can talk through that? You can talk through anything.

The Game Changer, The Course That Finally Made It Click 

We watched a YouTube video, the hundred thousandth one (jokes, but not really) about how to make more money and out of desperation, again, we clicked and booked the umpteenth call. 

It was our last buck and I was very skeptical after having been scammed so many times. Yes, we were desperate and yes, we clicked. Don’t judge. Desperation will have you signing up for things faster than your Wi-Fi can load. Desperation is a terrible financial advisor, but sometimes, she’s not wrong. This time, she wasn't wrong.  We hit the jackpot with the Overcomers Futures Trading Course.

Tools we still use every day to plan, track, and trade together. This course took us from nervous and unsure to actually passing an evaluation and qualifying for our first Apex Performance Account. It was the first time we saw trading as possible, not just theoretical. 

We Made Our First $100 With $0 of Our Own Money

Here’s the part that still feels surreal,  we didn’t use our own capital. We had to go through an evaluation round and once we passed the trading evaluation, we traded with capital provided to us. And the first time our account hit a PA status, We didn’t even celebrate like traders. We screamed like we'd just won a free vacation or found $20 in old jeans. Because it wasn't about the Performance Account, it was about the breakthrough and what it meant. 

Here’s the other thing, we learned more about each other through trading than almost anything else. It exposed our emotional patterns, our reactions under pressure, and our ability to support each other through tiny wins and small losses.
